Thanks for taking the time to learn more about our Dominican Republic Mission trips. We have two videos that describe the work we did there.
“A Comforting Spirit Journey” shares the story of a St. John’s Mission team that traveled to Dajabon, Dominican Republic in June 2012. The journey actually began in 2010, when St. John’s presented a $25,000 challenge grant to the Diocese of Southwest Florida to fulfill Bishop Holguin’s vision of building a mission church on the Haitian border. A new relationship was formed with our sister parish, Espiritu Consolador, led by Fr. Manuel and a dedicated church of approximately 100 people. During our June 2012 Mission, we helped in starting their new church with financing, construction and site work. We also shared wonderful times of fellowship and meals, street prayer ministry, meeting in homes and worshipping together. Since we were the first missionary team to that area, we were even interviewed on the local radio and television station, being given the opportunity before thousands to celebrate what God was doing! We were so blessed to be part of this missionary work and plan to return soon.
“Celebrating a Comforting Spirit Journey” chronicles St. John’s second mission trip in July 2014 to complete our sister church in the Dominican Republic. The team had an exciting week of painting, tile work and cleaning in preparation for our first worship service on Thursday. Watch the video and join us as we celebrate this wonderful time!
